Applications to be a resident assistant (RA) or residential belonging assistant (RBA) for next year are open Nov. 1-22, 2024. We’re looking for students willing to take the lead in promoting student success and creating thriving communities.
Serving as an RA or RBA provides invaluable skills that are highly valued in professional settings. The position helps students build a foundation in leadership, time management and conflict resolution–all of which are transferable to almost any career. As they address interpersonal issues within residence halls, these student staff members learn to mediate and communicate effectively, skills that are critical in human resources, counseling and customer service roles.
Leadership is a core skill gained from serving as an RA or RBA, as these students are responsible for guiding a diverse group of peers and fostering a supportive community. This experience in managing people and creating inclusive spaces is an asset in fields that value teamwork and diversity awareness.
Both resident assistants (RAs) and residential belonging assistants play important roles in the on-campus experience at UGA. They are typically upperclassmen who live on the same floor or wing as their residents and are responsible for fostering a positive living environment and supporting the needs of students. For students who live on campus, building a relationship with their RA or RBA can be a great way to get involved and feel connected to the UGA community.
- RAs perform a variety of duties, such as enforcing policies, organizing social events and educational programs, and providing support and guidance to residents. They are trained to handle a range of situations, from roommate conflicts to mental health concerns, and are often the first point of contact for students in need
- RBAs focus on connecting students to on-campus and community resources. They collaborate with other departments, such as the Pride Center, Multicultural Services and Programs, the University Health Center, and more to help students build a network of support
