Dear residents,
We are closely monitoring the forecast for a significant winter storm expected to impact our area this weekend. Your safety and well-being remain our top priority, and we want you to know that University Housing is preparing accordingly.
We are planning for a strong staff presence on campus throughout the weekend, including teams available to support you should conditions worsen. Existing generators in University Housing will run emergency and life-safety systems (not heat or hot water), but we are coordinating with campus partners on a university-wide response to ensure access to heat for students remaining on campus if power outages occur. We will continue sharing updates as the situation becomes clearer over the next couple of days.
Campus Preparations
The Office of Emergency Preparedness remains in close contact with local, state and federal agencies regarding potential impacts. Announcements about operational changes—including schedule adjustments, cancellations or closures—will be made through official UGA channels: ArchNews, emergency.uga.edu, and UGA’s X account (@universityofga).
Helpful Weather Resources
For the latest weather information, please continue to monitor:https://www.weather.gov/ffc
Please share this with your family and discuss options with them in case the impact on campus is severe. We know weather events like this can bring uncertainty, but please be assured that our teams—and UGA as a whole—are prepared and committed to keeping you safe, informed and supported.
If you have any immediate concerns, please reach out to your residence hall director.
Stay warm and stay safe,
