Hey Bulldogs!
If you’re gearing up to move into the residence halls this fall, there’s one critical step you must complete to officially secure your room: executing your housing contract in The Dawg House—UGA’s student housing portal.
So, what exactly is the housing contract—and why is it such a big deal?
What Is the housing contract?
The housing contract is a legally binding agreement between you (the resident) and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. By executing your contract, you are officially claiming your space on campus and agreeing to the terms that come with it.
This contract:
- Defines the terms and conditions of living in University Housing
- Includes relevant Georgia laws
- Refers to key policies in the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook
In short, it’s your official commitment to live on campus—and to pay housing rates for fall and spring semesters (and in some cases, summer). It’s important to note: you are not considered fully assigned to a room until you’ve executed your contract.
Why is it important?
Executing your housing contract ensures:
- You secure your dorm room assignment
- You understand your rights and responsibilities as a resident
- You avoid complications like late fees, account holds, or registration issues
Also, life happens—we get it. That’s why the contract includes options for students who pursue study abroad programs, internships, or cooperative education experiences. Just make sure you follow the proper steps for contract termination, or you could face penalties like fees or a hold on your student account.
Before you execute the contract…
We highly recommend reviewing a general copy of the housing contract before registration. You can download one directly from The Dawg House or contact University Housing to have one sent to you. It’s all about setting yourself up for success and making sure you’re confident in your campus living arrangements.
