Resident Assistants (RAs) play an essential role in shaping the on-campus experience at UGA. Whether they’re helping with roommate conflicts, planning engaging events, or offering support during challenging times, RAs work every day to build strong, connected communities. But just like the students they serve, RAs also need opportunities to learn and grow. That’s why several of them recently attended the Georgia Resident Assistant Saturday Seminar (GRASS), a statewide event bringing together 350 RAs and advisors from 17 institutions to enhance their leadership skills and bring fresh ideas back to the residents they serve.

GRASS 2025 provided RAs with hands-on training through thought-provoking sessions, interactive discussions, and collaborative learning experiences designed to enhance the residential experience directly benefiting the students they support. Workshops focused on creative ways to engage residents, promote mental well-being and foster a culture of inclusion in residence halls.
It’s all too easy to get stuck in habits as an RA… In attending G.R.A.S.S., I was able to learn and …adopt new methodologies.

These new skills translate into real improvements for students living on campus. Whether it’s an RA leading a stress-relief activity or using conflict resolution techniques to help roommates communicate better, the knowledge gained at this conference helps create a more positive and supportive residential experience.
It has given me the confidence to work better in my team and be a better student and RA for my residents. I would have never been able to think about my own leadership in that way without this conference and the amazing people attending and hosting!

By investing in professional development, UGA RAs continue to grow as leaders who make a meaningful difference in students’ lives. This long-held tradition of excellence at UGA will continue to benefit residents for years to come.
