- Brighten Your Student’s Day (and Yours!) with Flowers
First-year student, Marina poses with flowers outside of Russell Hall Looking for a new way to show your student that you’re thinking about them? Try flowers.
According to a new UGA study, buying flowers may actually boost well-being and reduce stress. That means sending a bouquet isn’t just a kind gesture it could be a real mood-lifter for your student as they balance classes, friendships, and all the excitement of campus life.
Of course, not every student is a “flower person”, and that’s okay! If your Bulldog prefers laughter over lilies, try an arrangement of the edible variety. A bouquet of cookies, candy or even fruit is sure to earn a smile, and maybe a photo text back to you showing just how much they appreciated the surprise.
And here’s the fun part: flowers aren’t just for them. While you’re at it, pick some up for yourself.
- Maybe your student hasn’t called home yet this week (don’t worry, it happens!).
- Maybe your student is thriving, and you’re simply missing them around the house.
- Maybe you just need a reminder that you’re doing a great job supporting them from afar.
Whatever the reason, a fresh bunch of blooms on the kitchen table can be a little gift of cheer to you, too.
Sending something thoughtful is a wonderful way to bridge the distance between campus and home. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy; it just has to come from the heart. As the study reminds us, it’s often the simplest gestures that make the biggest difference in how we feel.
So next time you’re thinking of your student, consider sending a little bloom-filled boost. Whether it’s roses, sunflowers, daisies or donuts-on-sticks, you’ll be sending them a message that says: I’m proud of you, I’m thinking of you, and I’m cheering you on from home.
