Action required TODAY: winter weather plans

Dear residents,

For students who are unable to leave campus after classes Friday, residence halls will remain open, but we need to know your plans, so we can best support those who need to stay.

To reiterate the most recent UGA Alert and ArchNews communication about possible dangerous winter weather impacts, we are encouraging students to return home (or go home with a friend) for the weekend after their classes conclude today, if possible.

Given the latest forecasts, we anticipate UGA being closed on Monday or to shift to an asynchronous learning model. The university will provide an update early Sunday afternoon regarding our status for Monday, Jan. 26.

If you are leaving campus:

  • Let your RA know: fill out this form.
  • Set your thermostat on HEAT at 68 or the lowest setting.
  • If you live in University Village, turn on kitchen and bathroom faucets to a slow drip (hot and cold water); open the cabinet doors under the kitchen sink.
  • Check in with your friends who may not be able to leave.
  • Drive safely!

If you need to stay on campus:

  • Let your RA know: fill out this form.
  • Set your thermostat on HEAT at 68 or the lowest setting.
  • If you live in University Village, turn on kitchen and bathroom faucets to a slow drip (hot and cold water); open the cabinet doors under the kitchen sink.
  • Charge your devices and any power banks you may have.
  • Pack an emergency bag in case you need to relocate due to a prolonged building power outage.
    • In this event, for your health and safety, you may need to relocate to temporary housing areas with cots that have emergency heat and meal services. You may not be able to remain in your assigned space during this time. Should this occur, bring any medications, multiple changes of clothing, toiletries, flashlights, chargers, snacks, blankets, pillows, books/board games.
    • Service animals and emotional support animals may be permitted in temporary housing areas if crated and/or on a leash. If applicable, be sure to pack water and food for your animals.
  • Continue to check emergency.uga.edu for updates.
  • If you become aware of any facilities-related problems, please report them to the front desk.
  • We will be here to support you!

Thank you for your help,
