Every residence hall or community at UGA has an elected group of student leaders who represent and advocate for their fellow residents.
These students plan events and activities based on community needs and wants, helping to create a welcoming and engaging environment. Events range from social gatherings to professional development workshops and advocacy initiatives. Being part of community council is a great way to build leadership skills and get involved on campus.
Community councils operate on a budget derived from the programming fee charged in conjunction with the housing fee, which pays for events, purchases and programs of their choice. These student boards also provide input on housing policies and fees. Programming fees are $20 per semester in the residence halls and $1 per month in University Village and the Health Sciences Campus.
Every year, community councils compete with each other to win the Council Cup. Incentives to attaining points include hosting events, collaborating with other councils, writing Of-The-Month (OTM) award nominations and more. Students and advisors are recognized for their achievements at an and-of-year banquet hosted by Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) in April.
Students can look out for information about running for community council positions at the beginning of fall semester.
