Ice storm update

Ice storm update

Dear residents,

We want to share an update on current campus conditions and what to expect as today’s ice storm continues. While teams are actively working to keep campus as safe as possible, conditions are forecasted to become more challenging throughout today into this evening. Please avoid complacency and continue to take this seriously.

Current Campus Status

  • Campus crews are prioritizing treatment of main sidewalks between residence halls and dining locations, including Bolton Dining and Village Summit.
  • Buses are not currently running while teams evaluate road conditions. (Please visit transit.uga.edu for the most up-to-date information.)
  • Please do not drive—conditions are hazardous, and improvements are not expected today.

Dining Operations

  • Bolton Dining and Village Summit are open from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • When you visit dining, take a Bulldog Box to-go and return your used box.
    • Please return your used box if you already have one.
    • Having extra food on hand helps reduce the need to go out later.
  • Please visit dining.uga.edu for the most up-to-date information on Dining Services operations.

Weather Outlook

  • It’s not over yet! Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing today.
  • Heavier precipitation is expected this afternoon, with increasing ice accumulation, cold temperatures and wind.
  • An additional ~0.25 inches of ice is possible today.

What You Can Do

Everyone can remain in their residence hall for the time being. If circumstances (such as a prolonged power outage) require the university to move you to a designated campus shelter, your swift attention and action will be required. Being prepared now will reduce stress later if conditions worsen. Communication with instructions will come via email, and staff are at the desk to assist.

Consider packing a small emergency bag so everything is in one place:

  • Changes of clothes
  • Warm clothing (layers, socks, hats)
  • Power banks and chargers (in case of power outages)
  • Games, books or other non-electronic activities
  • Medications
  • Toiletries
  • Snacks
  • Keep devices charged.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel around campus.
  • Stay alert to official university updates and follow guidance from staff.

Service Animals and ESAs

  • Service animals and emotional support animals will be allowed in any warming spaces.
  • Please ensure animals are on leashes or in crates when in shared spaces.

Your wellbeing is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as this system moves through the area. We will continue to share updates via email as conditions evolve.

Please take care and look out for one another.

Sincerely,
