Embracing the True Spirit of Homecoming

Homecoming week is a time for alumni to return, campus to buzz with energy, and our beloved Bulldogs to shine. But amidst all the festivities and the football game, there’s something even more special that stands out—the sense of homecoming that University Housing fosters year-round.

Living on campus is a transformative experience, and it’s not just because of the convenience it offers. It’s about the friendships, the camaraderie and the profound sense of belonging that permeates the residence halls. University Housing at UGA embodies the true spirit of homecoming by nurturing relationships and creating a supportive community.

Common spaces that inspire bonding: University Housing at UGA has a wide array of common spaces, including lounges, study areas and communal kitchens, where students often gather to socialize, study, and cook together. These spaces encourage interaction, leading to lasting friendships that carry the spirit of homecoming throughout the year.

Resident assistants (RAs) and C.L.A.S.S. advocates (CAs): RAs and CAs are more than just rule enforcers; they’re mentors and friends. They organize various events and activities that bring students together, fostering a sense of community. From movie nights to late-night chats, CAs and RAs play a crucial role in creating a supportive environment where everyone feels welcome.

Diversity and inclusion: The University of Georgia prides itself on its commitment to diversity and inclusion. This is reflected in our residence halls, where students from various backgrounds come together to form a vibrant and inclusive community. The unity we hope students experience on campus embodies the true spirit of homecoming, where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.

Supportive atmosphere: College can be challenging, and the support system provided by University Housing is invaluable. The residence halls are not just places to live; they are places where students can lean on one another for academic, emotional and personal support. The bonds created here are strong and enduring, making students feel at home no matter where they’re from.

As we reflect on homecoming week, we can’t help but acknowledge the genuine sense of homecoming that University Housing aims to instill in its residents. It’s not just about the football game, the carnival and the parade; it’s about the people, the friendships, and the community we’ve built on campus. The University of Georgia is not just a place to study; it’s a place to belong.
