Hunker Down with Housing
UPDATED JULY 23, 2014
Each year the University of Georgia community welcomes more than 8,000 new students into the many residence halls in a very condensed period. The Hunker Down with Housing program serves to streamline the move-in process and address resident and family feedback concerning traffic congestion, parking lot availability and elevator service. Hunker Down with Housing volunteers work diligently to ensure the initial days of move-in will run smoothly and serve our target audience: first-year students. Hundreds of Hunker Down with Housing volunteers will be located all over campus on August 12-13 to greet new students and parents, give directions to area parking lots, direct traffic and generally serve as a resource for residents and their families. Since the first Hunker Down with Housing in 1998, volunteers have successfully moved in more than 80,000 students and helped them begin to call UGA home. 2014 will be no exception!

GENERAL PARKING PROCEDURES
Parents, families, and students may drive to their designated halls on the day of move-in for short-term unloading. Once you have unloaded, you are expected to move your car to a long-term parking lot so that others may unload their cars. If you are a resident of the Brumby Community, you are required to go first to the designated staging area and check in with a member of the Hunker Down with Housing Volunteer Staff.
Brumby Community ONLY
If you are arriving on campus on Tuesday, August 12, you must first drive to the Tate Student Center Parking Deck off Lumpkin St. This is the staging area for the Brumby Community. Vehicles will wait in the Tate Center Parking Deck staging area until space is available in the designated unloading zones surrounding Brumby Hall. Entry to the Brumby unloading zone will not be permitted without an approved pass issued by a “Hunker Down with Housing” volunteer in the staging area at the Tate Center. Once your vehicle has arrived in the unloading zone, there is a one hour time limit. Vehicles left unattended for more than one hour will be towed. The staging area and unloading zone are for vehicles transporting belongings that need to be unloaded. Vehicles which are only bringing passengers can proceed straight to long-term parking.
**Please refrain from setting your GPS to Brumby Hall as it will interrupt traffic flow for the day**
Food will be available for purchase at the staging area beginning at 6:00 AM and a full breakfast will be available for purchase at the Tate Café after 7:30 AM, on the same floor as the restrooms.
If you are arriving on campus on August 13-August 18, you may drive directly to Brumby Hall to check in. A one hour time limit in the unloading zone will be enforced on August 12-13, 2014.
If headed from W. Broad Street: If you are driving to Russell Hall from Broad Street you can travel south on Milledge Ave. and take a left onto Baxter Street. Continue on Baxter Street and take a right on Finely Street and then a right into the parking lot.
If headed from Loop 10: Take exit 6 headed North on Millage Ave, take a right onto Baxter Street and then take a right onto Finely Street and then a right into the parking lot.
**Please follow the directions above and refrain from using your GPS as it may take you to the wrong location for move-in.**
After you enter the parking lot you will be greeted by “Hunker Down with Housing” Volunteers wearing a red t-shirt.
Several lots adjacent to Creswell Hall will be designated as unloading zones. Residents assigned to Creswell may drive directly to these zones. Unloading will be permitted in these areas for one hour. Vehicles left unattended after one hour will be towed.
