Creating Inclusive Spaces Workshop Series

October 13, 2016

University Housing seeks to promote a culture of inclusion, both for the students that we serve and for our staff members. In order to be inclusive, we must first learn about various identities that people hold, the ways in which we experience privilege, and how people with marginalized identities have been excluded. Join us for these two workshops as we learn more about ourselves and how we can be more inclusive of others.

Support University Housing

August 03, 2016

The most valuable resource within University Housing is our people and it is critically important that we recognize the efforts and achievement of the staff. Likewise, we want to meaningful and genuine activities that convey our appreciation for the value of their work such as awards, recognitions and fellowship events. Only private gifts can help us accomplish these goals.

In the past, we have conducted annual recognition breakfast where years of service and award winners are recognized, coordinated end of year celebrations for undergraduate staff (RAs/CAs) to recognize their efforts, celebrated the graduation of graduate staff (GRs and Dis) and conducted department wide activities to provide update, celebrate accomplishments and look ahead to new challenges. Also, we have plans to expand these staff recognition events and enhance professional development activities as part of our strategic planning for 2020.

We must support all these events with private gifts due to restrictions on spending auxiliary dollars for the personal benefit of staff. While “pats on the back” and kind words of thanks are great ways to express our gratitude for staff performance, our team likes to celebrate success as a community with modest refreshments.  It is the type of personal and genuine activity that sends a powerful message of support and gratitude.

I ask that you recall your experiences within University Housing and remember the fellowship, team spirit and celebrations of mutual accomplishments. I hope it harkens back good memories and feelings about the great work done to support our students. In that spirit, please consider making a gift to University Housing to support our staff development and recognition activities.
