Culture Of Inclusion and Belonging

University Housing believes an inclusive community is essential to the personal growth of all community members. Through our mission, values and principles, we commit to building a department where all can feel a sense of belonging. We strive to create an environment where we recognize, welcome and celebrate all staff, students and stakeholders’ identities.

University Housing’s Culture of Inclusion and Belonging committee meets semi-monthly to plan and review departmental initiatives for both staff and students. Activities include book discussions, guest speakers and heritage month celebrations.

In addition, the professional staff library in Russell Hall encourages and assists professionals in continuing their education on topics including diversity, equity and inclusion, leadership, and higher education. Overall, the committee works to improve cultural proficiency by prompting discussion of topics including inclusive language, microaggressions and the difference between race and ethnicity.
