Room Change Request
All change requests are facilitated online through The Dawg House. Some requests are accepted before move-in for an upcoming fall term, while others are accepted beginning the first day of classes of the term.
Before Move-in
First-year students are typically assigned in mid-May and may request a change before move-in through our new student reassignment request process over the summer months in The Dawg House. A first-year student must be offered and execute a residence hall contract online before a request may be considered. Requests can be to change the hall and/or roommate assigned. Both preferred roommates must also complete a reassignment request. If a reassignment request cannot be honored, the student may submit a room change / hall transfer request after move-in for consideration throughout the academic year.
Returning residents choose a fall room assignment through the Returning Resident Room Sign-Up process. Change requests are accepted on The Dawg House after initial room selection and are considered through the end of April. If a request cannot be honored, the student may submit a room change / hall transfer request after move-in for consideration throughout the academic year.
All other students do not have a standard request process before move-in. Special requests may be submitted via email to housing@uga.edu.
After Move-in
Room change and hall transfer requests are facilitated online in The Dawg House beginning the first day of classes for the fall or spring term. Requests submitted during the fall term are maintained through the spring term provided the student does not cancel the residence hall contract and move out early. All requests for room changes and hall transfers are cleared and no longer considered near the end of the spring term each year.
Private Rooms
Requests for these rooms are filled in the order in which they are received. There is no correlation between the amount of the additional fee and the size or furnishings of the room. Residents who wish to submit requests for doubles-as-private and/or for single rooms may do so online at The Dawg House beginning on the first day of fall semester classes. Students are contacted by e-mail when a space may be offered along with instructions to complete a move. Single room requests are kept active until a student either withdraws the request or moves out of the residence halls.
Singles: A limited number of single rooms (designed for one resident) are available in the following traditional residence halls: Mary Lyndon, Myers, Oglethorpe House, Payne, Reed, Rutherford, Soule and Building 1516.
Double-As-Private: When space permits, a student may rent a double occupancy room (designed for two residents) as a private for an additional fee. However, the resident is not entitled to make the extra set of furnishings (where applicable) available to another student or a guest. Once a double room is reserved as a private, the resident must pay the additional fee, even though he or she may later decide to accept a roommate or move to another room. Double as Private (DAP) rooms are rarely available during fall semester. Doubles as Privates, when approved, are only for the remainder of the academic year. Residents must apply each year for DAPs. All room changes and hall transfers have priority over DAP requests.
Summer Sessions
Changes for summer are rare because of the short duration of the sessions provided by UGA. Special requests may be submitted via email to housing@uga.edu before the start of a summer session, or in person at the community office of the assigned hall once classes begin.
