Fall Registration and Assignments Process for First-Year Students
The following information outlines the general timeline for registration and assignment of housing spaces for new, first-year students. More specific information is provided throughout the registration process. First-year students with families should consult the information on Transfer and Graduate Students page.
December: Because hall and roommate preferences are prioritized in order of registration date, we strongly recommended that students submit the $35 non-refundable University Housing registration fee as soon as possible following admission (registration will be open 48-72 hours after you obtain your MyID). Registration begins when the Office of Undergraduate Admissions releases early action decisions in November/December of the year preceding fall move-in and is completed through The Dawg House. Registering for housing does not obligate you to enroll at UGA.
January to August: Online registration continues for the upcoming fall term.
Mid-May*: A date in mid-May will be designated as the last day to register for housing and/or modify registration online before the initial round of first year assignments are made.
Late May: Immediately following the last day to register for a space with University Housing there will be a period of approximately one week in which no registrations and/or modifications will be accepted.
End of May: Hall assignments and contracts will be issued to all first year students registered for housing as of the mid-May priority date.
May-June: First year students who registered for housing prior to the mid-May priority date will be able to submit reassignment requests online.
June: First year students—who are required to live on campus—must execute a contract by the due date provided, however no housing prepayments are required.
End of July: Specific room and roommate information will be released to students who have signed and returned a residence hall contract.
August: The residence halls will officially open for fall semester on a date in mid-August. Members of the Redcoat Marching Band may be eligible to move in before the official opening date. All students checking in before the official opening date must pay an early check-in fee of $20 per day.
*All first year students registering for on-campus housing after this date will be assigned to a specific residence hall via an ongoing process throughout the summer.
