Residential Management System (RMS)
The Residential Management System (RMS) website is used by new applicants and current residents to update their contact information profile and for the apartment sign-up process in the spring semester of each year. You will need to use the RMS User ID, which is a four- or five-digit number that residents are given upon application for Family and Graduate Housing and is found on the first page of the Community Guide. If you do not have your RMS User ID and password, or if the information that you have does not seem to work, email your name and apartment information with a request to fgh@uga.edu.
Family and Graduate Housing is pleased to offer the convenience of an online application process to prospective student residents. Prospective residents who do not require special assistance may proceed to the online application. Single graduate students are also permitted to live in residence halls at UGA.
Eligibility
Individuals eligible to sign contracts with Family and Graduate Housing are any student who is a graduate student, married or in a domestic partnership, or a single parent with one or more dependents. At least one resident in each household must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree program at the University of Georgia. Postdoctoral students, faculty, and staff members are not eligible for residence in Family and Graduate Housing. Further information regarding occupancy qualifications is available in the Community Guide.
Application Process
For eligible students, the application process for an upcoming contract year (August-July) can be completed online in just a couple of minutes. Before you go through this process, you may want to review the rates for the coming year. You will need to access the MyRMS site to submit an application. When an application is received, it is processed or “accepted” and the applicant is placed on a waiting list until the contracting process is open. Applicants will receive an e-mail confirmation with an RMS ID. Receiving this e-mail is notification that the applicant is on the waiting list.
Step-by-step instructions for new housing applicants.
Mid-Year Applications
There are some individuals who will begin their academic studies in the spring semester (January) as opposed to the typical fall semester start (August). If an eligible student needs an apartment in the middle of the contract year, he or she should apply per the directions above and make a notation in the “Comments” section of the Primary and Secondary Profilepage. If space is available, once the application has been accepted, notification will be sent to the applicant to complete the online apartment selection and contracting process. If no space is available, the applicant will be placed on the waiting list.
Waiting List
The demand for Family and Graduate Housing sometimes exceeds the number of available apartments. All applicants are initially placed on the waiting list until the contracting period begins (typically late March/early April for contracts that begin the following August). Applicants participate in the apartment selection and contracting process in the order in which their application was received, the type of apartment requested, and what date the applicant would like to begin residency.
Apartment Selection and Contracting Process
The contracting process typically begins in late March/early April for contracts that begin the following August. Once the contracting process begins, applicants will receive notification based on their placement on that waiting list. Applicants are given a defined period of time to complete this process before the next batch of applicants are given access to the contracting process. It is recommended that applicants complete the apartment selection and contracting process as soon as possible after receiving notification to assure the highest availability of apartments. The apartment selection and contracting process is online in RMS.

Housing Contract Renewal Process
For residents desiring to return to their same apartment for the following academic year or any portion of the year, the Family and Graduate Housing contract renewal process can be completed online in just a couple of minutes. Residents wishing to transfer to another apartment in Family and Graduate Housing will also need to complete the online renewal of the contract first, and then submit a Transfer Request Form. Residents planning to vacate by the end of the current contract should submit the Intent to Vacate Form. Both the Transfer Request Form and the Intent to Vacate Form must be filled out in the Family and Graduate Housing Office.
Before you go through this process, you may want to review the rates for the coming year. You will need to access the MyRMS site using your RMS User ID and Password. The site is typically available for two weeks in March to complete the action that you have chosen. The site will close on the above date ending the renewal process. Step-by-step instructions for renewing housing (same apartment only.)
Options for renewal after this process may be limited. Your same apartment cannot be guaranteed. Step-by-step instructions for returning housing residents (same/different apartment.)
Roommates
The roommate option allows two graduate students to share a two-bedroom unfurnished apartment in Building C in University Village with individual contracts.
