Housing Policies
All residents are expected to know and conduct themselves in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the UGA Student Handbook, Family and Graduate Housing Guide to Community Living, and the University of Georgia Family and Graduate Housing Contract, including but not limited to, Section 1A in the “Terms” portion. It is your responsibility to read and understand the materials and directions in your contract, the community guide, and the student handbook, as well as official emails, posters, policy changes or written/verbal correspondence issued by University Housing or its staff.
Community Guide
The Family and Graduate Housing Guide to Community Living offers important material to you in one convenient location. You will find helpful information regarding your apartment, the Family and Graduate Housing Office, and details regarding all of our community standards and policies. Along with your contract, this guide provides answers to the many questions you may have about living with us on campus.
Contract
All students living in Family and Graduate Housing are required to sign a contract. The University of Georgia Family and Graduate Housing Contract defines the terms and conditions of occupancy, the beginning and ending dates, the rental rate, and procedures for termination. It is each student's responsibility to be familiar with the content of the contract. If you do not have a copy of your contract, you can contact the Family and Graduate Housing Office and request a copy.
Changing Apartments
After a resident moves into an apartment, a request may be made to transfer to another unit. Transfers made at the request of the resident may be subject to a $100 transfer fee, which will be assessed to the resident’s rental payment the first month following the completion of the transfer. Every attempt will be made to honor transfer requests, and the priority will be based on the transfer request date and conditions outlined in the Community Guide. Assignments for transfer requests made in conjunction with a renewal of the housing contract typically begin in March with moves taking place between May and July. The transfer request form is available in the Family and Graduate Housing office.
Family and Graduate Housing may reassign residents to other apartments when it is deemed to be in the best interest of the community, or when it is determined that a student is not actually residing in his or her assigned apartment.
Break in Housing
Residents leaving campus for an extended period of time for reasons associated with their academic responsibilities (e.g., collect data for research, internship, etc.) have the option to store their belongings in their assigned apartment, while only paying a reduced rate of $250 per month, prorated on a weekly basis, as rent for the apartment during the time away. Time estimated away from campus must be no less than four weeks and not longer than eight weeks. Terms of eligibility are outlined in the Community Guide and more information can be obtained by calling the Family and Graduate Housing Office.

Rights and Responsibilities
As a UGA student, you are guaranteed all of the rights, privileges and freedoms granted to all citizens; however, with these rights come responsibilities. UGA students are expected to abide by all federal, state and local laws. Alleged violations of these laws may be referred to the appropriate court or law enforcement authority. Violations of applicable laws may also result in UGA disciplinary action.
Student Code of Conduct
University conduct regulations are explained in the UGA Student Handbook. It is responsibility of every student to know and abide by the Student Code of Conduct.
