Research at the University of Georgia and around the nation consistently indicates that students who live on campus during their first year of college:

  • Take heavier course loads
  • Achieve higher grades
  • Participate more actively within the collegiate community
  • Report a higher level of satisfaction with their overall college experience

For these reasons in spring 2003 the University of Georgia adopted a residency requirement for all first year students. Participation is mandatory, and failure to comply with the first year live-on requirement may result in cancellation of enrollment and revocation of student status at the University of Georgia. However this requirement may be waived for students with atypical situations.

For complete information about the first year live-on requirement and access to exemption request forms, please visit the first year live-on requirement page in the Residence Halls section of the University Housing website.
